Language Camp Makes Perfecting English Fun

English Language Fellow Fidelia Twenge-Jinings and three other American camp leaders were joined by local Thai school teachers and staff for an exciting four-day English camp held for Thai Access Microscholarship students from the Islamic College of Thailand.
The immersion experience took place in Bangkok during the first weekend of March and included interactive activities to help the students learn English that incorporated song lyrics, posters, spelling bees, talent shows, and interview-sessions with American Field Service (AFS) alumni. Also as part of the camp students learned about American culture by way of lessons about American cooking and holidays, which also included an day-long cultural visit to one of Thailand’s most popular entertainment parks “Dreamworld.” The camp provided an entertaining environment that allowed these enthusiastic students to take part in supplementary learning activities specially designed for this group of Thai Access Microscholarship grantees, all of whom expressed their heartfelt excitement and appreciation for being able to take part in this unique English learning opportunity.
